UNESCO defines it as a social practice based on the set of knowledge and traditions that range from the landscape to the table including the way we consume. In the Mediterranean Diet people relate to food and to eating as a social thing that generates pleasure. This emphasis on the sociality rather than just the biological role of supporting bodily functions in a diet is an important feature of the Mediterranean way of living: eat well, train regularly and laugh it off.
