Dr. Valter D. Longo

ITALY / US

PROFILE

Dr. Valter Longo is Professor of Gerontology and Biological Science and Director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California, internationally recognized as an expert in longevity and age-related diseases. His research identified a genetic mutation associated with protection from cancer, diabetes, cognitive decline, and cardiovascular damage, and led to the development of the fasting-mimicking diet, now studied in over 30 clinical trials demonstrating effects on biological age reduction, diabetes regression, and cancer survival.

His book “Longevity Diet” was translated into 26 languages and distributed in 40 countries. In 2018, Time magazine named him one of the 50 most influential people in healthcare. He has received multiple awards, including the Glenn Award for Research in the Biology of Aging, and is recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher (2021–2025), ranking in the top 1:1000 scientists globally.

He is President of the Create Cures Foundation, the Longevity Technology Institute, the Valter Longo Foundation, and the European Longevity Institute, offering educational and research-based programs on nutrition and lifestyle for the prevention and complementary treatment of non-communicable diseases.

Dr. Rebecca Robbins

US

PROFILE

Dr. Rebecca Robbins is Assistant Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Scientist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Her research is focused on uncovering the connection between the quantity and quality of sleep and various dimensions of waking success, from cognitive to physical and emotional health and well being. Dr. Robbins has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and 20 encyclopedia chapters. Dr. Robbins is Co Author of “Sleep for Success!”. Dr. Robbins makes frequent television appearances, including “the Today Show”, “Live!” with Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, and “Good Morning America”. Dr. Robbins has held teaching positions at Harvard College, the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health and the Weill Cornell Medical College in Doha, Qatar.

 

Maria A. Blasco

SPAIN

PROFILE

Maria A. Blasco obtained her PhD in 1993 for her research on a viral DNA polymerase at the Centro de Biología Molecular “Severo Ochoa” (CSIC-UAM, Madrid, Spain) under the supervision of Prof Margarita Salas. Following a postdoctoral stay with Carol C. Greider at her Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (New York, USA) where she isolated the first mammalian telomerase gene and generated the first knockout mouse for telomerase, Blasco returned to Spain in 1997 her own laboratory at the Centro Nacional de Biotecnología-CSIC (Madrid, Spain). She joined the CNIO in 2003 as Head of the Telomere and Telomerase Group and Director of the Molecular Oncology Programme (2003-2012). She served as CNIO Vice Director (2005-2011), and CNIO Director (2011-2025).

Blasco’s Group has made an array of seminal contributions to the understanding the role of telomere biology in ageing, tumourigenesis, DNA repair and epigenetics, and the biology of both adult and induced pluripotent stem cells (ESC and iPSC), as well as on the translation of that knowledge into therapeutic strategies and applications. Blasco has generated two spin-off companies: Life Length SL and Telomere Therapeutics. Blasco was a runner-up for the EU Women´s Innovator Award in 2014.

Maria A. Blasco has authored to date more than 280 publications, and her h-index >100.

Maria A. Blasco was elected EMBO Member in 2000 and sat at the EMBO Council during 2008-2011. She was the recipient the EMBO Gold Medal in 2004. She has also been distinguished with the European Association of Cancer Research “Young Investigator Award” (2002), the Joseph Steiner Award (2003), the Rey Jaime I Prize for Basic Research (2007), the Körber European Science Award (2008), the Spanish National Research Award in Biology Santiago Ramón y Cajal (2010), the Lilly Foundation Preclinical Research Award (2010), the Miguel Catalan Career Achievement Award awarded by the Regional Government of Madrid (2016). Maria A. Blasco became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Pharmacy in 2013. In 2021 she was named Chair of SOMMa (‘Severo Ochoa’ Centres and ‘María de Maeztu’ Units of Excellence Alliance) and also became a member of the Board of Trustees of Museo del Prado (Madrid, Spain). She has been conferred Doctorate Honoris Causa titles from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain) in 2014 and from Universidad de Murcia (Spain) in 2018.

Dr. Brian Kennedy

US

Dr. Brian Kennedy is a Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Biochemistry and Physiology and also serves as the Programme Chair of the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme and Director of the Bia-Echo Asia Centre for Reproductive Longevity and Equality, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Singapore. In addition, he is also the Director of the Centre for Healthy Longevity, National University Health System. Collectively, NUS ageing research seeks to demonstrate that longevity interventions can be successfully employed in humans to extend healthspan, the disease-free and highly functional period of life. From 2010 to 2016, Dr. Kennedy was the President and CEO of the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, USA and he maintained a professorship there through 2020. Dr. Kennedy is also actively involved with a number of Biotechnology companies and also served as a Co-Editor-In-Chief at Aging Cell from 2011-2021. Finally, Dr. Kennedy has a track record of interaction in China, where he was a Visiting Professor at the Aging Research Institute at Guangdong Medical College from 2009 to 2014.

Mikel Izquierdo

SPAIN

PROFILE

Mikel Izquierdo is Vice-head and a full Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the Public University of Navarra. He is Head of the Research Unit of Physical Exercise, Health and Quality of Life (E-FIT) at the Biomedical Research Center NAVARRABIOMED. He also holds an appointment as Professor of Sport Biomechanics at the Centre of Studies of the Spanish Olympic Committee. From 2005 to 2010, he was Head of the Research, Studies and Sport Medicine Center of the Government of Navarra. During that time, he worked with several Olympic gold medallists in rowing, handball, and Basque ball. He also worked with the Liverpool and Barcelona football teams, with whom he won 2 European Championships, the Spanish Cup, and the League.

He is the principal investigator and collaborator on several EU-funded projects focused on frailty and exercise: VIVIFRAIL, to promote and recommend lifestyle changes associated with physical exercise for frail patients at risk of functional decline; MID-FRAIL, to test the efficacy of a multimodal intervention in prefrail/frail older patients with type 2 diabetes; and DIABFRAIL-LATAM, a multicentre study to evaluate the efficacy of an exercise and education programme in improving the functional capacity of older patients with diabetes, funded by the European Commission and to be held in Latin America. He is currently collaborating with WHO on implementing a physical exercise programme as a global intervention strategy for frailty and fall prevention.

Professor Izquierdo’s research interests include investigating the effects of physical exercise across the human lifespan and in various disease states, such as diabetes, obesity, and heart failure. His work also focuses on the neuromuscular biomechanics underlying muscle strength and power. He has a particular academic interest in exploring strength training modalities in elite athletic populations and older adults. His scholarly work examines the physiological effects and biomechanical factors associated with resistance exercise across diverse demographics. Prof. Izquierdo has published over 572 original articles in peer-reviewed journals (H-index 123) and supervised over 40 PhD students.

Zsolt Radák

HUNGARY

PROFILE

Zsolt Radák obtained his PhD from the University of Tsukuba in Japan. He was awarded Hungary’s Bolyai Research Fellowship in Medicine, followed by the Széchenyi professorship from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He holds the title of DSc from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in the field of medicine. Currently, he is a Vice-Rector and a professor at the Hungarian University of Sport Science. He is also appointed as a professor at Waseda University, Japan, and Ningbo University, China.
Dr. Radák has published over 250 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and given more than 150 invited international and domestic lectures. His H-index is 81. His recent research focuses on epigenetic adaptation to exercise training, especially in aged individuals. His research group developed a new epigenetic clock, DNAmFitAge. In addition, his group is investigating the role of the gut microbiome in exercise-induced adaptation. Dr. Radák has served on the editorial boards of several scientific journals and as a section leader in international funding agencies. He is a highly cited researcher.
Dr. Radák has held visiting professor positions at Toho University, Juntendo University, and Waseda University in Japan, the University of Texas in the USA, National Taiwan Sport University in Taiwan, and Beijing Sport University in China. He has edited the books “Free Radicals in Exercise and Aging,” published by Human Kinetics, “Exercise and Diseases,” published by Meyer & Meyer, and his new book, “Physiology of Physical Training,” published in 2018 by Academic Press.
